8th Dec - Dude, where's my QE?

Tantrum time! No bond buys before QE/more SMP!
Lots of material today, a pity since now I didn't have time for an editorial. But just as an appetizer, a new nick for the dynamic duo: Sarcomengel. There will be plenty of those tomorrow.

Today's sections: ECB, Treaty change, Bank stress tests and a very nice Breakup.

Back to School

Here’s MoreLiver’s Thursday Back to School research recap.  Some of the summaries are truncated. Most of this is lifted from @quantivity twitterfeed, NBER and the blogs I follow. Topics this week: Quant Stuff, Economics, Anomalies / Predicting, and Portfolio Management.

You can follow me on Twitter and Facebook and email me for suggestions and requests.

7th Dec - Mexican stand-off

What a rollercoaster it has been.
Another interesting day: summit-jargon thrown left and right, an attempt at Deutsche Bank’s chairman’s life, S&P threatens a downgrade of everything in Europe, yesterday’s test balloon (letting both EFSF and ESM operate at the same time) was rejected by Germany, and we got a new test balloon (IMF) that got already denied.

Today a special section on the laughable IMF-rumor that was used to boost stocks in late US session. I’ve included some comments, even though the rumor has been shot down already. For the headline analysis, nothing beats the blogs.

7th Dec - Summit hangover already?

UBS in the spirit of Christmas
You really ought to check last night’s post, the themes of two bailout funds, S&P downgrade threat and especially Bundesbank is broke are worth your time. Longer editorial coming up later today - basically my idea why it is time to sell the periphery bonds again, in anticipation of a summit disappointment.  I’m off to an interview. Close shaves and haircuts for all!

6th Dec - Waiter, this isn't what I ordered

Wow, what a day. After the bullrun in PIIGS bonds, thinly veiled threats from S&P, heavy-duty, hardcore summit-sitting and a test-balloon of the day (how about two rescue funds?!?). Most importantly, Bundesbank is practically broke so we can almost hear the sound of coming printing by the ECB – the only LOTR in town. The commentary on the EU summits is that the published plan is in fact an austerity union, not a fiscal union. The idea was to put a fiscal union in place, but this is the best they could do - or what Merkel could do. Sarkozy does whatever he is told.

Categories today: Euro Crisis (general), The Plans, Two Bail-Out Funds, S&P Downgrade Threat and Bundesbank is Broke. Of importance today is to understand the material in the last two.
