MORNING BRIEFINGS
Economists anticipate
a slightly higher annual pace of consumer inflation for the UK in today’s update. In other reports for
Tuesday, the market is looking for improvements in economic sentiment for Germany via ZEW and a rebound in US housing starts.
European markets are
likely to open in the red Tuesday. Traders await German and Eurozone ZEW
sentiment indices for June for hints on the region’s performance. Also, today’s
US CPI will be watched ahead of the outcome of the FOMC meeting tomorrow.

ASIA
China's consumer confidence declined sharply in May to 99.0 from 103.7 in
April. Of course household spending in China represents only around 35% of the GDP
(according to the World Bank), while the US consumer is over 70%. Nevertheless taken
together with China's manufacturing PMI, we may be seeing signs of renewed economic
weakness (see also today’s roundup
from BTH for more on China)
