Schedule for Week –
Calculated Risk
The key event this week will be the FOMC statement and press conference on Wednesday. It is possible that the FOMC will start to reduce the monthly purchases of assets. There are three key housing reports that will be released this week, housing starts on Wednesday, homebuilder confidence survey on Tuesday, and existing home sales on Thursday. For manufacturing, August Industrial Production, and the NY Fed (Empire State) and Philly Fed September surveys will be released this week. For prices, CPI will be released on Tuesday.

S&P 500 Earnings Week Ahead – Reuters
Wall Street Week Ahead – Reuters
Months of anticipation will come to an end next week when the Federal
Reserve finally says whether it will start to rein in its massive stimulus of
the economy, which has flooded financial markets with some $2.75 trillion over
the past five years, supercharging returns on everything from stocks to junk
bonds.
Weekly Focus: Time for tapering – Danske
Bank (pdf)
We expect the Fed to
initiate the tapering of the QE programme at next week’s FOMC meeting. We
expect a reduction in treasury purchases of USD10bn. Ben Bernanke is expected
to stress that the first Fed funds rate hike is not likely to come before
mid-2015. In the euro area, the German federal election gets attention. The
state election in Bavaria held on 15 September may give some clues to the
outcome of the federal election to be held on Sunday 22 September.
Week Ahead – Nordea
(pdf)
We expect the Fed to reduce the pace of its monthly bond purchases by
USD 15bn, to USD 70bn... UK minutes of the MPC
meeting...Draghi’s speech on Monday (summary).

FX Outlook: Is it All about the Fed? – Marc to Market
We suspect the dollar may weaken after the FOMC decision. The Fed is more likely to do less rather than more relative to market expectations. That sell-off can extend into the end of the week. However, we look for the dollar to begin recovering ahead of the German elections next weekend.
